The society was founded in March 2003 in the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn. It has set itself the task of advancing an artistic critique of the built environment through photography. In doing so, it is above all concerned with tracing new forms of artistic expression with photography, to support their articulation and to make them known. Since that time, the architekturbild e.v. is awarding the European Architectural Photography Prize architekturbild and organising its further support.
An additional aim is to promote architectural photography as a comparatively young artistic genre, through events and publications.
With its website, architekturbild e.v. offers a platform through which important events relating to the theme of architectural photography can be announced and current developments interactively discussed. The objective is to create a high quality, contemporary network for the theme of architectural photography.
The necessary expenses in achieving these tasks are considerable, therefore architekturbild e.v. is reliant on a large membership and donations.
